More than 3,000 sets of masks and gloves were passed out by Hayat Pharmacy on Friday, April 3, keeping social distancing in mind.
"We’re encouraging them to stay in their cars and we’ll bring them the masks and the gloves to their cars, occasionally if we get someone from the bus, we try to keep a distance," said Dr. Hashim Zaibak, Hayat Pharmacist.

Tamir Kaloti, president of Hayat, said the pharmacy will be named Whitefish Bay Pharmacy by Hayat. Assuming Hayat receives necessary approvals from the village, Kaloti said he hopes the new pharmacy will be open in about three months.

The CDC said Fluzone contains 4x the antigen of standard-dose flu vaccines. But manufacturing was delayed after the World Health Organization delayed deciding what flu strains to use in vaccines this year. "Because it's a new formula every year, manufacturing can be very complicated," Zaibak said. "If you're 65 or older and your doctor's office or pharmacy doesn't have the high-dose vaccine, don't wait to get it. It's better to have a normal dose vaccine on board versus having no vaccine at all".

A potentially bad flu season could get even worse for senior citizens because some providers are having trouble keeping the high-dose shot in stock. Dr. Hashim Zaibak of Hayat Pharmacy said his wholesaler’s inventory page shows it has zero high dose shots available to purchase. "The communication we're getting is that there is a manufacturing issue. The product is on backorder," Zaibak said.
