Semaglutide Frequently Asked Questions
How does semaglutide work?
Semaglutide works by reducing hunger, slowing gastric emptying and promoting a feeling of fullness after meals, which can lead to a decrease in overall caloric intake. It functions as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, a class of drugs that mimic the natural hormone incretin to stimulate insulin release.
Do I need a prescription for semaglutide?
Yes, a prescription is required from your health care provider. Please let us know if you are seeking a referral to determine whether you’re a good candidate for this wellness and weight loss treatment. Semaglutide is not suitable for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is only approved for people ages 18 years and older.
How is semaglutide administered?
Semaglutide is administered once weekly by subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. A Hayat Pharmacy pharmacist will administer the initial 4 doses (once per week for the first month) via a walk-in appointment at our 807 W.
